Wilson from his previous post in Washington D.C. and brought an end to Brig.
Gen.
Randy P.
Oakland’s two years as JBSA commander, at the same time he retired from 30 years of Air Force service.
“We will cultivate a culture of respect and professionalism by being empathetic, connected, and present.
How are we going to do all this?
Teamwork,” Wilson said.
“We will face challenging opportunities each and every day.
Many of them will be unpredictable.”

The 8,000-person 502nd ABW is the largest wing in JBSA.
The joint base as a whole is home to more than 80,000 full-time personnel across Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, Randolph and Camp Bullis.
“During the last two years, JBSA was in need of steady, devoted leadership during a dynamic time.
I cannot imagine any other officer who would have perfectly met that challenge and led this team to such great success,” Wilson said of the outgoing commander.
Losing Army North and South
Last October, officials announced that the U.S.
Army would move its headquarters of Army North and Army South away from Ft.
Sam Houston to Fort Bragg.
The creation of the new merged North Carolina-based command, known as Western Hemisphere Command, was part of the Pentagon’s effort to streamline military operations.
“Downsize, consolidate or close redundant headquarters,” was Defense Department Secretary Pete Hegseth’s instructions in combining Forces Command with Army North and South.
U.S.
Army North was officially shuttered in mid-July, after U.S.
Army South’s closure in May.
Both had called San Antonio home for several decades.
The former was tasked with protecting the homeland, while the latter was involved with security operations in Central and South America.
In light of the loss of several hundred jobs associated with the combination and relocation of Army North and South, city leaders are attempting to lure the Defense Health Agency (DHA) to San Antonio.
Officials hope that relocating the DHA headquarters from Falls Church, Va. could make up for failing to bring Western Hemisphere Command to the city.
Last summer, JBSA also assumed control of a National Defense Area along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The area under the joint base’s administration was further expanded in February.
