National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign held on the first Tuesday of August across the country.
It traces its roots to 1984, when neighbors in suburban Pennsylvania began turning on their porch lights and sitting outside to get to know local police officers.
The tradition has since grown into a nationwide effort to strengthen community-police relationships and promote neighborhood safety.
"Gathering together with a cookout, our neighbors, music, activities, information and law enforcement creates a recipe for building community," organizers said in a press release.
Street parking is available, and free two-hour parking is available at Pivot Parking at 225 E. 7th St. and at The Market at 7th Street.
