Maine has now joined the ranks of states with a resident murdered by ICE.
A man who was here legally (as if that should matter).
A father working two jobs to feed his family.
Likely terrified that ICE agents had surrounded his car.
Likely hyper aware of the other murders ICE had committed of Latino men across America.
Likely worried about his family should something happen to him.
An unarmed Mainer desperate to survive as agents swarmed his car.
An unarmed Mainer shot in the head through the windshield of his car.
An unarmed Mainer dragged to the pavement after being shot in the head, lifeless.
Then handcuffed.
Blocks away from his three-year-old daughter and her mother, who sobbed as she cried out for her slain partner, “Mi amor.
Mi amor.”
It’s simply unbearable.
Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero is now the 11th person murdered by ICE since Trump sent his gestapo out in his quest to whiten America.
Approximately 400,000 people have been kidnapped and detained by ICE since this started.
But can we actually know the real number?
Compare this to the tragic detainment of 120,000 Japanese-Americans during WWII and you get a sense of the magnitude of what is happening.
And yet, Sen.
Susan Collins still sits on her hands and does nothing.
As she always does, she talks and votes out of both sides of her mouth.
She voted for an amendment to restrict ICE, but once it failed, she turned around and supported the full funding of ICE with no limitations .
None.
Carte blanche.
And now a Mainer is dead.
A father.
A husband.
A neighbor.
A friend.
Collins voted to confirm Department of Homeland Security head Kristi Noem.
She voted to confirm Markwayne Mullin for the same position.
She voted for ICE’s budget in January , April , and June .
Not once has she made her final vote contingent on getting anything in return.
Anything that might protect Mainers like Johan Sebastián from being murdered in our streets.
In fact, in a recent response to criticism that she had done nothing to rein in or hold ICE accountable, Collins claimed to have negotiated for body camera funds in one of the budgets.
Body cameras, of course, that none of the ICE agents involved in murdering Johan Sebastián were wearing.
But this is what Collins does.
Just talk, talk, talk, talk.
She actually admitted recently to an NBC reporter that she had no idea ICE was under pressure to arrest as many people as possible to meet quotas.
This has been reported extensively.
Even bragged about by Stephen Miller.
And yet, she said , “I would be concerned if I knew that to be true.
But I have not heard that at all.”
But now a Mainer is dead.
And Collins must own her actions.
Hundreds are marching across the state to show their disgust.
Thousands have signed this petition: Tell Susan Collins: Get ICE out of Maine!!
(you should too).
And in a week, Democrats will be choosing a candidate to replace Graham Platner.
We must choose wisely.
We must choose someone who we trust understands that ICE must go.
And we must choose someone who can win.
Abolish ICE.
Of course.
But those are just words.
Vote out Susan Collins and it might just happen.
