Rumors of *Alien: Romulus* not getting a follow up have been greatly exaggerated.
Over the weekend, outlet World of Reel alleged that the unannounced sequel had been “indefinitely shelved,” bordering on “may not ever happen.”
The website cited several reasons for this, including David Jonsson recently landing *Black Panther 3* and his *Romulus* costar Cailee Spaeny rumored for *X-Men*.
But the biggest obstacle was allegedly Ridley Scott: returning in a producer role, he was said to be too hands on, since this sequel will bring back David, the android played by Michael Fassbender last seen in 2017's *Alien: Covenant*.
World of Reel claimed Fassbender “practically signed on,” but Scott refused to let the actor join the project, despite its completed script.
This standstill then sent *Alien: Romulus* director/co-writer Fede Álvarez—who isn’t directing this next movie, but wrote and produced it—“into a tailspin” and to leave the sequel entirely.
“Currently no path forward for the sequel,” said the outlet, whose story subsequently went viral and sent *Alien* fans into despair.
And then came 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell, using X to dispute the story with one simple word: “Nope.”
That's currently the final word on the matter, at least from the studio.
World of Reel, meanwhile, has yet to update or correct its initial reporting at time of writing.
News on the *Romulus* sequel been nonexistent, save for Álvarez stating in 2025 that filming would begin that October.
In this day and age, months of silence can be equivalent to a quiet death for movies or other projects, not helped by Disney being in a cancelling mood lately.
Even so, Asbell’s declaration that the story of *Alien: Romulus* will continue has fans hopeful.
Now, it's just a matter of being patient for more news.
