The Boston Police Department is investigating a fatal broad daylight shooting on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester.

John Boyle confirmed with the Herald that the victim, an “adult male,” has died after being shot at 564 Blue Hill Ave., near the intersection with Seaver Street, abutting Franklin Park Zoo, around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
The confirmation came moments after BPD Superintendent Paul McLaughlin briefed the media at the scene just before noon, reporting that the victim was rushed to the hospital and was in “very critical condition” from “multiple gunshot wounds.”
No suspects were immediately in police custody.
McLaughlin said it was too early to determine whether the shooting was gang-related.
“I would say that I do not believe this was a random incident,” McLaughlin said, “so I don’t believe there’s a danger to the rest of the community in the sense that this person is running around and shooting at people.”
“I think this was a situation where the parties are known in one way or another,” he added.
“That’s how we’re following up.”
Detectives were canvassing the scene and "looking for video, looking for additional witnesses and evidence."
“We are following up on information about the shooter, how they got here, how they left," he said.
"Over the next couple of hours, we will have more information on exactly how that happened.”
Police officials were asking the public, "anybody who might have been out here, anyone who has video, driving by," for assistance.

The brazen shooting continues Boston's stretch of summer violence.
Briefing reporters in Dorchester, McLaughlin touched on the Hyde Park shooting that left a 26-year-old man dead and four others injured early Monday morning.
Oliver Derima, 27, of Randolph, was ordered held without bail Tuesday, remaining hidden from courtroom cameras as he was arraigned on murder and other charges stemming from the Hyde Park Avenue shooting death of Ky Mani Korey Reynolds, 26, of Dorchester, just after midnight Monday.
“Clearly, we’ve had a few incidents recently that are very alarming to the public and to us," McLaughlin said.
"That’s why we are committed to taking quick action.
… We have a lot of detectives assigned to this, and we are looking to put this case together as quickly as we possibly can.”
The Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, the department’s largest union, stated in a social media post that this is the latest example why the city needs more officers.
“Broad daylight violence, in addition to being incredibly brazen, is especially concerning for all who live in the city,” the union posted on X.
“If bad guys aren’t thinking twice about shooting people at 10:15AM, that’s a problem.”
The union added, “More police presence equals less violence.”
