Brookman, 67, of Wethersfield, CT, beloved husband of 42 years to Angela (Tiberio) Brookman, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at Yale New Haven Health.
Donald was born in Hartford, CT, and was the son of the late Edward and Mariam (Gould) Brookman; son-in-law of the late Pasquale and Concetta Tiberio.
Don, affectionately known as “Uncle Don” to his great-nieces and nephews, was an incredible man of many talents.
He loved to stay active and found true joy outdoors, whether he was helping others or tending to his garden & yard.
His unmatched sense of humor and friendly nature earned him a reputation as a true friend to many of all ages.
As an avid gardener, Don transformed his yard into an impressive flower exhibition yearly.
Florida beaches held a special place in his heart with countless memories made with family and friends.
He greatly enjoyed placing the occasional wager on live jai alai or racing greyhounds and found himself content in the company of his retired racing greyhounds.
A lifelong fan of sports, Don remained faithful to the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and back-to-back Cup champions, the Florida Panthers.
Throughout fatherhood, he dedicated much of his time to taking his sons to sporting events and games.
In his younger years, he played numerous sports with a focus on baseball, followed by dedicating decades to softball, a sport in which he truly excelled and his time playing with lifelong friends he fondly cherished.
Later in life, he traded his bat for a paintbrush, excelling with his Bob Ross-inspired paintings.
Don will be remembered for his many qualities, but none more so than his generosity, willingness to help, and quick-witted sense of humor.
He left people better than he found them, leaving a legacy that his family and friends will never forget.
Besides his wife Angela, Donald is survived by his two sons, Brett and Dan; his three sisters: Martha and husband Tom Duggan, their sons TJ and Eddie; Jan and husband David Elkins; and Joyce Brookman.
Three sisters-in-law: Sina and husband Mike Bruno, their daughters, Michelle, grand nephews, Benjamin and Jonathan; and Mellisa, grand nieces, Madison and Makayla; Connie and husband Mike Towers, daughter Lauren; and Patty Tiberio.
A Celebration of Donald’s life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke., Wethersfield, CT.
Burial will be private.
Relatives and friends may call at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, Saturday from 10am to 12pm.
