Funding will support Lincoln Avenue / Marshall Way / Pacific Avenue corridor project
The City of Alameda has received $850,000 in federal funding to go toward safety and mobility improvements in the Lincoln Avenue / Marshall Way / Pacific Avenue Corridor Improvement Project .
Congresswoman Lateefah Simon made the announcement on Monday, July 27, at a press conference at the Academy of Alameda.
She was accompanied by Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft and Alameda Public Works Director Erin Smith.

The improvement project targets roughly three miles between Alameda Point and the East End, identified to be a high-injury corridor in the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan .
Improvements include installing roundabouts, disability parking zones, better lighting, and high visibility crosswalks.
The City’s goal is to eliminate all traffic deaths and severe injuries by 2035.
Ashcraft noted the large number of facilities, such as schools and parks, along the corridor that have made it particularly vulnerable and a high priority for the city to address.
“This one just really begged prioritizing, because of all of the facilities that it touches and the fact that it’s a busy transit corridor,” Ashcraft said.
During the conference, speakers emphasized how the safety and quality of everyday life for residents in Alameda will be improved by the project, particularly for children, families and disabled people.
“I’m committed to centering disability actions, organizations, disabled people—and in all our collaborations, we’re ensuring that the development of our communities will not be without the voices of disabled folks in our community,” Simon said.
“This federal funding will also support the students and the teachers and the families who travel on this corridor every single day because every single family deserves a safe journey from home to school.”
Ashcraft added, “This project is an investment that will serve Alameda families for generations to come by making daily trips safer and more reliable.”
The funding is part of the $11.2 million Simon secured for Community Project Funding for 15 community projects in California’s 12th congressional district in February.
The money closes the gap significantly toward the project’s estimated $20 million cost to complete.
Previously, the project had been funded by Measure BB Local Streets and Roads and Developer Impact Fees, and in 2024, the City of Alameda received a $16 million federal grant from the Safe Streets and Roads for All program in order to fund the program.
The project is scheduled to start construction in 2028.
