A Liberty County inmate who escaped custody while at a Kingwood hospital was captured Wednesday near Seattle, more than two weeks after fleeing on foot.Â
On July 18, Yorlan Rafael Reyes, 31, fled HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwoodâs emergency room after authorities took him there for a medical emergency.Â
Reyes was booked into the Liberty County Jail on July 17 on a warrant alleging unlawful disclosure or promotion of intimate visual material.Â
Authorities said Reyes traveled through Cleveland, Texas and the Houston area before reaching Washington, where investigators traced a cellphone number linked to him.Â
His escape prompted Liberty County to fire the correctional officer supervising him, and officials said Reyes may face new charges involving threatening messages allegedly sent while he was at large.Â
The correctional officer supervising Reyes when he escaped was fired July 28 after an internal review found that the officer violated inmate transportation and supervision policies.Â
Investigators said they found no evidence that the officer committed a crime.Â
According to a Liberty County Sheriff's Office social media post, investigators found that Reyes fled from the hospital to Cleveland, Texas, where he allegedly entered a residence and obtained new clothing.Â
He then stayed at a nearby residence with people he knew until July 21.Â
Reyes later went to a Houston-area property where someone helped him travel to the Seattle area, authorities said.Â
Investigators identified a cellphone number they believed Reyes was using.Â
Working with Liberty County investigators, the U.S.Â
Marshals Service used the number to locate Reyes in Mukilteo, Washington, where authorities said he had been working in construction.Â
The sheriff's office said Reyes allegedly sent threatening messages to several women in Texas while authorities searched for him.Â
Reyes could face additional charges related to those messages.Â
