A man was arrested in San Francisco last week after he allegedly shot through the window of a woman’s car in broad daylight, then sped recklessly away, police said Thursday.
On June 23, a woman reported that her “car window was just shot out” near the intersection of Steiner and Bush streets in Lower Pacific Heights, the San Francisco Police Department said in a statement.
The suspect vehicle was hard to miss — a video taken by the victim showed a lemon yellow van with opaque windows and also captured the driver’s license plate number.
Police said they used a drone and the city’s network of automatic license plate readers to find the van parked in a nearby lot.
When a man matching the description of the shooter walked toward the vehicle, officers arrested him without incident, police said.
Police also found ammunition inside the vehicle, as well as a handgun in a nearby storage bin, authorities said.
Police did not disclose when the shooting was first reported, but the suspect was apprehended just after noon, according to time stamps on body-camera video released by SFPD.
The man was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and willful discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
His name was withheld “due to the active investigation,” police said.
