A pedestrian died Sunday evening after being struck by a southbound Amtrak passenger train in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Police Department were dispatched to an incident at the railroad tracks near Por La Mar Circle, said Lt.
Ethan Ragsdale.
“Life-saving measures were conducted for some time,” Ragsdale said.
“However, tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The name, age and hometown of the person who died won’t be released until family members have been notified, he added.
Amtrak police also were at the scene.
One southbound lane of Highway 101 was closed for a time Sunday night due to the emergency vehicles.
Additionally, California Highway Patrol officers shut down the southbound Milpas Street onramp due to the investigation.
It reopened at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Amtrak reported a Pacific Surfliner Train 794 service disruption Sunday night due to “a temporary municipal services hold.”
